Configuring MX records for your domain at goole Apps
To use Google Apps as your domain's email service, you'll need to modify your MX records to point to Google's mail servers. You must change your domain's MX records with your domain hosting account. Each domain host has slightly different instructions to change MX records. Some domain hosts provide DNS settings for you to make the required changes yourself while other domain hosts will make the requested change for you. For setup instructions for your domain host and a short video on configuring MX records, see section 3 below.
If you purchased your domain name from one of Google's registration partners while signing up for Google Apps, you shouldn't use these instructions. Instead, you can activate email in the control panel, and Google will automatically configure your MX records.
If you're currently using an in-house email server to host email addresses at your domain, you should create user accounts in your Google Apps control panel for each address before changing your MX records. Otherwise, email sent to those addresses may bounce.
- Sign in to your hosting account, and go to the MX record maintenance page. MX records may be located in DNS Management, Mail Server Configuration, or Name Server Management. You may have to enable advanced settings to edit your MX records.
- Delete all existing MX entries.
- Enter the following MX records. You may not be able to enter the priority value exactly as it appears in the table below -- if you can, make sure each record follows the indicated order. If you aren't able to assign priorities, you should only enter aspmx.l.google.com.. Set any TTL values to 1 Hour (value=3600).PriorityMail Server1551010Note: ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM is the top priority mail server. Don't assign the top priority to any other servers. Learn more about mail server priority. Be sure to include trailing dot (.) at the end of any full-qualified domain names (for example, server.example.com.) if your MX records require this format.
- Save your changes. Your MX records are now configured to point to Google. Keep in mind that changes to MX records may take up to 48 hours to propagate throughout the Internet.
