Help file not found in SQL Server Express 2005
Symptom
---
SQL Server Express 2005 help files may fail to open, show no response, or with the following error message:
"Help file is not found"
Affected configurations
---
The above symptom may occur on the following systems:
- All ThinkStation systems
- All ThinkCentre systems
- All Lenovo 3000 desktops and notebook systems
- All ThinkPad systems
Solution
---
None. Do not replace any hardware for this issue.
Limitation
---
SQL Server Express, English version, is written to search "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Help\1045" or "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\Resources\1045" when to launch the help files. On non-US systems, the help files are placed in other folders than "\1045," such as "\1033," because the installation is performed by the Windows installer, which is related to the operating system.
Workaround
---
Create a sub folder "\1045" under "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Help\"and "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\Resources\." Copy all "chm" files from "\1033" to "\1045."
